These are our built-by-us “tortoise tables” specifically designed and built for raising baby tortoises. They are made from aluminum framing wrapped in PVC sheeting for a very durable, rigid and lightweight enclosure. Solid panel sides keep the tortoises from pacing back and fourth against the glass like they do in aquariums (there is no glass in our cages). You can literally spray it out with the hose, shake it dry, and it's good as new. 

Our "built in 2012" set of cages have screened tops over them (black aluminum screen). This screen will keep tortoises in, and small pets out. The lid lifts up on hinges, making access easy as well as giving the option of an open top very simple. They have a hidebox built into them, which we typically keep moistened so tortoises have a humid retreat to get into at night. This has proven to help prevent pyramiding in baby tortoises, and is the single best way to assure smooth, uniform shell growth. The hidebox lid also opens right up (see second photo), so you can get to your sleeping tortoises if needed. 

These tables can contain moist substrates with no problem, and will not corrode or rot like wood enclosures can. They're not heavy and fragile like glass enclosures are. We built them for function more than anything else, with a little bit of style thrown in!

These enclosures are a good size for those of you wanting to keep your tortoise in a single cage the first few years of its life. It also allows you to raise a small group of tortoises in a cage, with plenty of room for them to explore and wander. 

*Warning: We built these enclosures with an indoor setup in mind. Using these darker colored cages outdoors in direct sunlight will build up extreme heat and will likely cause harm to your tortoise. Please be sure to use these indoors only or outdoors on cool days. Even with air temperatures in the 70s, aluminum and plastic in direct sunlight can get very hot.
